Learn Underground Hypnosis: Rapport

Underground Hypnosis

The foundation of underground hypnosis is getting the subject to trust you. Basically, before you put them in a trance, you must develop a good conversational rapport with them. Good rapport involves:

  • Smiling and looking at them in the eye. Maintain eye contact, but do not come off as creepy. The way to overcome this is to “smile with your eyes”
  • Asking questions. What’s the first thing two strangers do when they engage in a conversation? They ask questions about each to find some common ground!
  • Finding things that you have in common and talking about them.
  • Using active listening skills. At times, you want to repeat back to them what they just said to show that you heard and understood them. You can repeat the same idea in different words, but a better way to do this is to repeat the same words with the same tonality.
  • Making empathetic statements that demonstrate you understand their situation and needs. Responding to what they’re saying is important because it shows that you sincerely care about what they have to say and can make them open up more.
  • Matching and mirroring. To make someone you’re talking to feel completely comfortable with talking to you, it is helpful to mirror their behaviors. Mirror their tonality, breathing rate, hand gestures, etc. You may be afraid that the other person will “catch you,” but if you give yourself a 3 second buffer, your mirroring will appear very natural.

Building rapport is similar to strengthening a bridge over a river: the stronger the bridge, the more it can carry, and the more success you will have in getting them to do what you want through only your conversation.
